Development of Improved Materials for Continuous Steel Hot-Dipping Processes: Improves the life of molten metal bath hardware and bearings. Funding for the project included $2,326,500 U.S. DOE OIT; $2,326,500 cost share. Project partners included West Virginia University, Oak Ridge National Lab, Weirton Steel, Wheeling Nisshin, Bethlehem Steel, Duraloy Technologies, Steel Dynamics and National Steel.
Hot Strip Mill Transfer Bar RapidfireTM Edge Heat Project: Produce higher quality steel by re-heating the edges of the molten steel as it exits the furnace. Funding for the project included $400,000 U.S. DOE OIT; $945,000 cost share. Project partners included Gas Research Institute, Weirton Steel and the West Virginia Development Office.
