Projects

Separation and recovery of thermoplastics for reuse via froth flotation from nylon waste streams: Project to recover the mixed plastic reject currently generated in nylon production. Funding for the project included $100,000 U.S. DOE STTR/SBIR Program. Project partners included SDR Plastics, Argonne National Laboratory and West Virginia University.

Plant-wide energy assessment at the Bayer Corp., New Martinsville, West Virginia, plant: Energy assessment of the plant to increase efficiency and reduce energy costs, $100,000 in U.S. DOE OIT Best Practices funding, $100,000 cost share. Project partners include Bayer and West Virginia University.

Energy efficient processes for making tackifier dispersions used to make pressure-sensitive adhesives: Key objective is the development of one or more cost-effective and energy-efficient processes to produce commercial quality tackifier dispersions containing resins having a range of softening points from 40° C to 100° C or higher. Funding $1,395,260 (three years) U.S. DOE OIT, $1,395,260 in cost share. Project partners include West Virginia University, Dyna-Tech Adhesives, Inc., Charles Ross & Son Co., Mays Microsystems Inc., Argonne National Laboratory, Tulane University.
