PUBLIC INITIATIVES IN TECHNOLOGY
Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences, Marshall University

Established in May 1993 through a cooperative effort between Marshall University the West Virginia Graduate College, which have since merged, the center forges close relationships among the business community, higher education institutions and government agencies in technology-based endeavors. Concurrent Engineering Research Center (CERC)

The Concurrent Engineering Research Center at Morgantown was established by the U.S. Department of Defense through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. FBI Fingerprint Identification Center

National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA)

Located in the heart of West Virginia’s technology sector, the NASA Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) Facility was established in 1993 as part of an agency-wide strategy to provide the highest achievable levels of safety and cost-effectiveness for mission critical software. The IV&V Facility was founded under the NASA Office of Safety and Mission Assurance as a direct result of recommendations made by the National Research Council (NRC) and the Report of the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident. Since then, the IV&V Facility has experienced continual growth in personnel, projects, capabilities and accomplishments. The IV&V Facility’s efforts have contributed to the improved safety record of NASA since its inception. Today, the IV&V Facility is governed by the Goddard Space Flight Center and houses more than 150 full-time employees and leverages the expertise of over 20 in-house partners and contractors. http://www.ivv.nasa.gov/

National Research Center for Coal & Energy, West Virginia University

In collaboration with the faculty of West Virginia University, the National Research Center for Coal and Energy (NRCCE) identifies, develops, promotes, coordinates, supports and conducts multidisciplinary energy and environmental research and service programs that are important to industry, the state, and the nation. The NRCCE accomplishes its mission through the efforts of faculty, professionals, students and external collaborators working through organized program units, each of which serves the specialized needs of its sponsor and user community in discovering new knowledge; applying, extending, and generating new technologies; transferring information through multimedia systems and learning programs; and by providing support services to facilitate developing new programs, conducting and completing research and service activities, and transferring knowledge. http://www.nrcce.wvu.edu/

National Technology Transfer Center

National White Collar Crime Center

The National White Collar Crime Center, located in Fairmont, provides a nationwide support network for law enforcement agencies involved in the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime. http://www.nw3c.org/

Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization

Established in 1995, the Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization (OLETC) is a program of the National Institute of Justice’s Office of Science and Technology. Its mission is to develop and deploy an active, broad-based national program to assist in the commercialization of innovative technology for use by the law enforcement and corrections community. OLETC’s primary objective is to bring research and private industry together to put affordable, market-driven technologies into the hands of law enforcement and corrections personnel. OLETC, located in Wheeling, actively solicits manufacturers to commercialize technologies based on requirements identified by the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice and its Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Advisory Council as well as from law enforcement and corrections practitioners. Robert C. Byrd Institute, Marshall University

RCBI provides manufacturers with regional access to advanced CNC equipment, affordable workforce development and technical training programs designed and customized to meet their needs. RCBI assists manufacturers with implementation of documented quality systems to ensure they remain effective suppliers while providing assistance to compete for Department of Defense (DoD) contract opportunities. For more than a decade, RCBI has provided more than 600 technical training initiatives to 5,000 individuals who represent more than 600 industrial firms from West Virginia and the surrounding region. http://www.rcbi.org/
