The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and Development, Inc., is a nonprofit organization affiliated with West Virginia University. The mission of CESD is to support West Virginia's economy by improving the state's existing work force and the organizations that employ these workers. This mission is accomplished through the implementation of practical solutions from existing technologies and the development of innovative solutions derived from CESD's research and that of other programs. All of the learning experiences from CESD projects are used to enhance teaching and research activities at West Virginia University and other educational institutions.

CESD provides innovative solutions in a variety of different areas to all types and sizes of companies. Some of the areas in which CESD provides services include organizational diagnostics and assessments; continuous quality improvement; total organizational involvement; integrated product development; structured job training; process management; operations management; business development; employee development, and facilitator development.

Monroe County Manufacturing Assistance Center

The Monroe County Manufacturing Assistance Center (MC-MAC) is one of two training facilities in North America certified by GE Fanuc. The center opened in 2000 as a joint venture of GE Fanuc, the Monroe County Manufacturing Assistance Center, the Center for Work Force and Business Development of Greenbrier Community College (a branch of Bluefield State College) and the West Virginia Development Office.

Customized on-site training also can be arranged at companies using GE Fanuc CNC products.

The National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC) promotes the efficient identification, management, development and commercialization of marketable research and technologies to strengthen U.S. industrial competitiveness.

The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI), the leading manufacturing technology, technical education, workforce development and training resource across West Virginia and the region, focuses on improving manufacturers’ success.

The mission of RCBI is to develop and enhance a quality, capable, just-in-time, manufacturing supplier base for the Department of Defense and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, as well as commercial markets. RCBI offers solutions for manufacturers’ success by providing access to state-of-the-industry production and prototyping equipment, affordable technical training, quality management systems, implementation assistance, business development and online networking resources. RCBI offers a hands-on, industry-based approach to meet the needs of manufacturers.

RCBI operates four manufacturing technology centers in Huntington, Charleston, Bridgeport and Rocket Center (near Keyser in Mineral County).

Customized workforce development and technical training initiatives meet the needs of manufacturers including the nationally certified machinist technology program. Special scheduling requirements and customized training requests are regularly accommodated to meet industrial needs whether this involves conducting training at any of RCBI’s statewide facilities or delivering it at the manufacturer’s site.

RCBI offers assistance and guidance for federal, industrial and commercial contracting opportunities with electronic commerce and online networking through its 21st Century Manufacturing Network.

The West Virginia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WVMEP) helps West Virginia’s small and medium-sized manufacturers strengthen their businesses by reducing costs, increasing revenues and generating higher profits.
