Building international relationships
With support from the Export Council of West Virginia and
the U.S. Department of Commerce, the International Division
helps companies build international relationships through
the West Virginia Export Initiative, a program to help expose
businesses to global opportunities.
This program aims to support and enhance the performance
of West Virginia businesses, so they can reach their full
potential to provide jobs and grow their business. Research
shows that companies that export enjoy higher growth and employee
retention than those that focus solely on the domestic market.
The West Virginia Export Initiative sponsors several trade
events throughout the year. Trade missions, usually led
by the governor, allow West Virginia business representatives
and state officials to meet with international executives
and government officials. West Virginia businesses increase
exposure to their products during trade shows in several cities
across the globe.
The International Division participates in national organizations
related to international trade promotion including State International
Development Organizations, Inc., and Appalachian Regional
Commission's Export Trade Advisory Committee.
